Katharina Wagner

Katharina Wagner, the great-granddaughter of Richard Wagner, helds the position of artistic director of the Bayreuth Festival since 2015. She is also managing director of BF Medien GmbH, a subsidiary of the Bayreuth Festival.

Katharina Wagner was born in 1978 in Bayreuth and studied theater sciences at the Free University of Berlin. 
Her productions include "The Flying Dutchman" in Würzburg, "Lohengrin" in Budapest, "Der Waffenschmied" in Munich, "Il Trittico" in Berlin, as well as "Madame Butterfly" and "Tiefland" in Mainz.
 In summer 2007 she made her directorial debut at the Bayreuth Festival with "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg".
 In 2015, Ms. Wagner staged "Tristan and Isolde" at the Bayreuth Festival, under the baton of Christian Thielemann. 


Katharina Wagner is also Honorary Professor of Directing at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin. Together with her half-sister Eva Wagner-Pasquier, she was awarded the BZ's Culture Prize in 2010 and the "Bavarian Culture Prize" in 2012. In September 2012, she was named the Cultural Manager of the month by Kulturmarken.
