Per Bach Nissen

Danish bass Per Bach Nissen recently had engagements in the 22-23 season as the Wirt in Schreker's "Der Schatzgräber" at the Opéra National du Rhin and at the Salzburg Landestheater as King René in Tchaikovsky's "Iolanta" and Kaiser in the world premiere of Alma Deutscher's "Des Kaisers Neue Walzer." His role debut as Fasolt in "Das Rheingold" took place in 2019 at Müpa - Palace of Arts in Budapest, conducted by Maestro Adam Fischer (DVD). In 2018, he made his critically acclaimed debut at the Bregenz Festival as Cardinal Camillo in Goldschmidt's "Beatrice Cenci" conducted by Johannes Debus (DVD).

Other engagements included Fafner (Siegfried and Das Rheingold) at Oper Frankfurt, Gremin (Eugene Onegin) at Komische Oper Berlin, the Chief of Police (Lady Macbeth of Mzensk) at English National Opera under Mark Wigglesworth and Il Re (Aida) at Malmö Opera under Leif Segerstam.

At the Royal Danish Opera, where he made his debut in 2013 as Sagrestano (Tosca), he can be heard regularly as a guest, among others, as Dr. Bartolo (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Jeronimus (Carl Nielsen's "Maskarade), Tombeau (Amir Tafreshipour's "The Doll Behind the Curtain" - Naxos), Zuniga (Carmen) and Jens Grand in Heise's "Drot og Marsk". Per also sang Zuniga with the Danish National Opera and performed with all Danish symphony orchestras.

From 2012 to 2015, Per was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Hannover, where he performed roles such as Boris (Lady Macbeth of Mzensk), Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Gran Inquisitore (Don Carlo), Theseus (Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"), Sam and Tom (Un Ballo in Maschera), and Commendatore (Don Giovanni). During this period he also made guest appearances as Rocco (Fidelio) with Michigan Opera, Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) with Philadelphia Opera and Teatro di Mario di Monaco in Treviso, Boris (Lady Macbeth of Mzensk) and Gran Inquisitore (Don Carlo) with Theater Lübeck, and Dr. Bartolo (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Opera Zuid at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Per was an ensemble member at the Augsburg State Theater and the Mecklenburg State Theater from 2005 to 2011.
