Michal Marhold
The young Czech baritone, Michal Marhold, studied at Janacek’s Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno and has won numerous singing competitions, including the President Prize of European Music Academy in Teplice and the best young opera singer award in the Czech Republic. Since then, he has performed in prestigious opera houses in central Europe, such as Theater an der Wien, National Theatre Prague, and South Bohemian Theatre.
In 2018, he became a fixed soloist at Konzert Theater Bern, where he performed various roles such as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Schaunard (La bohème). During the 2019-2020 season, he appeared as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Divadlo na Orlí in Brno, Silvano (Un ballo in Maschera) at the National Theatre Moravian-Silesian in Ostrava, and Gran Sacerdote (Nabucco) for the South Bohemian Theatre. In the 2020-2021 season, he played the title role in Don Giovanni at the Silesian Theatre in the Czech Republic, performed in the world premiere of the opera Hibiki at the National Theatre Moravian-Silesian, and reprised his role as Guglielmo in South Bohemian Theater’s season of Così fan tutte.
In June 2021, he made his debut with Theater an der Wien at the Ring Award Graz competition in the role of Masetto (The Don Giovanni Syndrome) and in September 2021, he performed in the production of Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo, directed by Robert Carsen and conducted by Giovanni Antonini. In June 2022, he made his debut at National Theatre Prague as Harlekin in Flammen by Erwin Schulhoff, directed by Calixto Bieito and continued in Prague with the role of Zweiter Schneidergeselle in “Zemlinsky’s Kleider machen Leute” directed by Jetske Mijnssen.
In the 2023 - 2024 season he will return to Prague to perform the leading role in Le nozze di Figaro in the new production of director Barbora Horákova Joly in co-production with the National Theater Mannheim, and as Shaunard in La Bohème. At the Warsaw Chamber Opera, the baritone will embody Holofernes (Judita Triumphans) in October 2023, and again at the National Theater Prague in Zemlinsky's opera Kleider machen Leute he will be heard as Schneidergeslle.
